Chemetall Site in Germany Goes Fully Renewable

May 20, 2025

Chemetall, the surface treatment business of BASF’s Coatings division, announced that its Langelsheim production site in Germany now runs entirely on renewable electricity. The transition marks a key milestone toward Chemetall’s goal of sourcing 80% of its global electricity from renewables by 2025.

The Langelsheim site—Chemetall’s third largest globally—sources 2,000 MWh annually from solar and wind power via BASF Renewable Energy. The shift is expected to reduce indirect CO₂ emissions by approximately 620 tons per year.

“We are committed to sustainability at Chemetall,” said Frank Naber, senior vice president. “Operating our Langelsheim site 100% on renewable electricity is a significant achievement and supports our aerospace customers with more sustainable solutions.”

The site is a key production center for aerospace sealants, including Naftoseal products, and also manufactures corrosion protection agents and cleaning products for metal surface treatment. The move follows similar renewable energy investments at Chemetall sites in the United States, South Africa, Türkiye, and Mexico.
