The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry of the American Chemistry Council announced the 2025 CPI Distinguished Leadership Award recipient, David Mullen of Huntsman. The award recognizes individuals whose leadership, innovation and commitment to sound science have made a lasting impact on CPI and the polyurethanes industry. It was presented during the awards luncheon at the 2025 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in St. Louis.
“CPI is immensely grateful for David’s long-time contributions to the polyurethanes industry,” said Jason Sloan, director, CPI. “In every way, he represents what this award is about – expertise, leadership and building for the future.”
Mullen has worked in the polyurethanes industry for more than 35 years and serves as senior process chemist at Huntsman’s Geismar manufacturing site in Louisiana, specializing in isocyanate and polyols analysis. He holds a Master of Science in chemistry and has contributed to quality assurance and raw materials testing.
His contributions to CPI include nearly 25 years with the Polyurethane Raw Materials Analysis work group, including 14 years as chair from 2011 through 2024. The PRAMA group supports standardized testing across the value chain, including 30 ASTM raw material standards and alignment with 11 ISO methods. Mullen also co-developed and co-instructs CPI’s PU 201 course, “The Myth and the Magic,” launched in 2003, which covers raw materials testing, specifications and performance.
The 2025 Polyurethanes Technical Conference also featured the Polyurethane Innovation Award, 15 technical sessions, 18 posters, 70 presentations and 34 exhibitors.
