In a statement from the World Coatings Council, the organization said it supports the 13th annual International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action, Oct. 19–25, 2025. During the campaign week, the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint reminds governments, civil society organizations, health partners, industry and others of the risks of lead exposure and the need for action, including laws that limit lead in paint used where children are present.
WCC said member associations have a long history of addressing health, safety and environmental impacts tied to the manufacture and use of paints and printing inks, including the recognition, evaluation and control of hazards from lead in paint. The council noted participation in the UN General Assembly ministerial breakfast “Toward a Lead-Free Future: Mobilizing to End Childhood Lead Exposure,” and in the Lead in Paint Community of Practice to share knowledge and raise awareness.
As a longtime partner of the Lead Paint Alliance, WCC applauded partners’ work to engage governments and implement effective and enforceable legislation and regulation, and said it looks forward to continued collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and others to support a lead-free environment in countries not currently restricting lead use.
WCC said it supports industry outreach and education in key regions and endorses the alliance’s Model Law, the second-edition toolkit for establishing laws to eliminate lead in paint, and the Questions and Answers about Lead Paint and Lead Paint Laws as starting points for government and industry collaboration on restrictions that ensure widespread and verifiable compliance.
About WCC: The council provides a forum for information exchange and cooperation on major issues facing the paint, coatings and printing ink industries worldwide. Members represent associations from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EU, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. WCC is a recognized nongovernmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The American Coatings Association serves as secretariat for WCC.
