BASF Coatings Details Contributions to UN Sustainable Development Goals

BASF Coatings outlined its support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as the global framework marks its tenth year. The company said its sustainability priorities align with several SDGs tied to climate protection, innovation, clean energy, quality education, responsible consumption and production and gender equality.
“Climate protection, eco efficient solutions with resource conserving materials and safe and sustainable products for our customers – these are our priorities,” said Dr. Markus Piepenbrink, head of sustainability at BASF Coatings. “We actively drive these topics and thereby contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
The company highlighted progress toward Goal 13: Climate Action, including expanded use of renewable electricity at global production sites and the development of CO2 reduced products using approaches such as biomass balance. BASF Coatings also noted innovations that support Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, citing technologies designed to improve energy and material efficiency. Examples include the sharkskin surface film developed with Lufthansa Technik, the Viant coating technology that combines conversion coating and primer in one layer and the Overspray-Free Application process for two-tone automotive coatings.
Workforce and training initiatives support Goal 4: Quality Education, with vocational programs, dual study opportunities and ongoing development for employees. The company also participates in early talent and skills programs and supports training for refinish painters through global competitions and industry partnerships.
“Sustainability is both our obligation and our opportunity,” said Piepenbrink. “We want to create positive impacts for the environment and society and drive change together, thereby supporting the UN goals.”
