ACC Raises Concerns Over TSCA Assessments in House Hearing

The American Chemistry Council said it urged Congress to support a science-first approach to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s implementation of the Toxic Substances Control Act during testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
In testimony delivered Jan. 8, ACC said EPA’s chemical assessment programs increasingly rely on precautionary and conservative assumptions and that the approach is contributing to regulatory uncertainty for U.S. chemical manufacturers. ACC representatives told lawmakers that national defense, energy independence, supply chain resilience and domestic manufacturing depend on predictable chemical regulation.
ACC said it is encouraging Congress to exercise oversight authority and pursue targeted reforms to ensure TSCA implementation reflects scientific rigor, transparency and congressional intent.
