Nouryon announced it is expanding production capacity for its Levasil® colloidal silica at its manufacturing site in Guangzhou, China, to support demand in catalysts and coatings-related applications.
The investment is intended to serve growing markets across Asia-Pacific, including emissions control catalysts, electrical steel coatings and non-stick coatings. The company said expanding local production will improve supply reliability and reduce lead times for customers developing next-generation technologies.
Levasil colloidal silica is used across a range of industrial applications. In emissions control catalysts, it supports compliance with environmental standards. In electrical steel coatings, it contributes to improved energy efficiency in transformers. In non-stick coatings, it enhances durability and performance.
“China's technology-driven industries are moving fast and access to advanced colloidal silica is becoming a competitive necessity for manufacturers pushing the boundaries of what's possible in catalysts and performance coatings,” said Patrick Wilhelm, vice president for Growth Accelerator Industrials. “This investment means our customers can count on us as long-term partners as they scale their most demanding applications.”
“Asia Pacific is one of the world’s most dynamic regions for premium colloidal silica and China is a big driver of that growth,” said Sobers Sethi, senior vice president for Emerging Markets and China. “Expanding our production in the region ensures Nouryon is positioned to grow alongside our customers as this market continues to need advanced solutions.”
The expansion follows the opening of the company’s innovation center in Shanghai in 2025, which includes laboratories dedicated to colloidal silica and catalyst-related applications. Nouryon said the combined investments support ongoing product development and customer collaboration in the region.
Levasil is used within the company’s resource solutions and performance materials segments, including applications in coatings formulations and industrial processing.
