Henkel Adds Solvent-Free Conformal Coating for Electronics

Henkel announced the market availability of Loctite Stycast UV 7998, a solvent-free conformal coating designed to protect printed circuit boards and electronic components.
The company said the UV/moisture dual-cure material is intended for home appliances, lighting, consumer electronics and automotive applications. Conformal coatings are applied to printed circuit board assemblies to help protect against moisture, dust, chemicals and other environmental exposure.
Henkel said Loctite Stycast UV 7998 provides self-leveling, wetting and uniform coverage during application. The material cures under UV light in seconds, followed by a secondary moisture cure for areas that are not directly exposed to the light source.
The company said the formulation is UL 94 V-0 rated and is tin-free, halogen-free and BPA-free. Henkel also said the material is compliant with RoHS and REACH requirements.
According to Henkel, the solvent-free formulation can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40% compared with solvent-containing formulas. The company also said the coating can require up to four times less sprayed volume than solvent-based conformal coatings to achieve a similar thickness.
Henkel said the material expands its conformal-coatings portfolio for mainstream electronics manufacturers seeking a combination of processing efficiency, electronics protection and lower-VOC manufacturing.
