Cloverdale Paint and Celanese Corp. announced a collaboration intended to bring new paint solutions made with carbon capture and utilization technology to market.
Celanese said its technology converts captured industrial carbon dioxide emissions into a methanol building block used in vinyl acetate-based emulsions, which are used as raw materials in paint manufacturing. The company said the approach reduces the use of fossil-based feedstocks and tracks sustainable content through mass balance accounting.
The collaboration is expected to use more than 1 million lb of captured carbon dioxide emissions annually in products manufactured by Cloverdale Paint.
“Partnering with Celanese is a significant step forward not just for Cloverdale Paint, but the paint industry as a whole,” said Darrin Noble, president and COO of Cloverdale Paint.
