The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded $400,000 to ENF Products LLC in Edmond, Oklahoma, to further develop and commercialize a nanofiber filtration technology for indoor environments.

The funding was awarded through EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research program. ENF Products previously received $100,000 during Phase I of the program to establish proof of concept for the technology.

The Phase II award will support continued development of a nanofiber filter designed to capture indoor-air toxins and pathogens in homes, businesses and other indoor spaces.

“ENF Products is doing Oklahoma proud with their innovative project that could help make homes, businesses and other indoor environments safer and healthier,” said Scott Mason, EPA Region 6 administrator. “For small businesses like this one, SBIR funding can make a huge difference in turning ideas into real, tested products that can benefit us all.”

EPA is one of 11 federal agencies participating in the SBIR program, a competitive initiative intended to help small businesses develop and commercialize new technologies.

Phase I recipients receive $100,000 over six months to demonstrate proof of concept. Companies that complete Phase I may compete for Phase II awards of $400,000 to further develop and commercialize their technologies.

Phase II recipients may also qualify for up to $100,000 in additional matching funds if they secure an equivalent third-party investment during the project period.

EPA said the latest round of awards supports technologies addressing environmental challenges including PFAS contamination, water-quality monitoring, indoor-air pollutants, recycling systems and safer chemicals.

“Congratulations to these small businesses for their dedication to driving innovation and tackling today’s environmental challenges,” said Teresa Booeshaghi, associate administrator for EPA’s Office of Applied Science and Environmental Solutions. “Their groundbreaking ideas not only address critical needs but also pave the way for a healthier planet and a stronger, more sustainable economy.”

EPA has operated the SBIR program for more than 40 years.
