Major Indian Pipeline Operator Joins AMPP

The Association for Materials Protection and Performance is expanding its activities in India as the country increases investment in energy, pipeline and industrial infrastructure.
AMPP said it now serves more than 3,200 members in India and is developing additional training, certification and chapter-support resources for the market. The organization is also working with industry leaders to identify regional needs related to corrosion management, protective coatings, asset integrity and workforce development.
As part of the expansion, GAIL (India) Limited has joined AMPP as a corporate member. GAIL owns and operates a significant portion of India’s natural gas pipeline network and plans additional infrastructure investment during the next five years.
“India offers tremendous growth potential for infrastructure, especially as the country focuses on building and maintaining safe and secure infrastructure for its long-term energy needs,” said Tim Gonzalez, vice president of energy integrity solutions at AMPP.
AMPP said the membership will create opportunities for GAIL to participate in standards development, technical committees, training and collaboration with asset owners, government agencies and other industry organizations. The two organizations are also discussing potential in-house training programs for GAIL personnel.
