BASF Adds Three Biomass-Balanced Options for Architectural Coatings

BASF has expanded its certified biomass-balance portfolio for architectural coatings with three additives designed to reduce product carbon footprints without requiring formulators to modify existing systems.
The additions include Dispex AA 4145 MB, Rheovis PU 1333 MB and Rheovis HS 1169 MB. All three products are certified under the REDcert² standard and are available globally.
Under BASF’s biomass-balance approach, certified renewable resources replace fossil-based raw materials at the beginning of the company’s production chain. The corresponding renewable content is then attributed to the finished product using an independently certified mass-balance method.
According to BASF, the resulting additives provide the same properties and performance as their conventionally produced counterparts while offering a reduced product carbon footprint under the company’s methodology.
“With the introduction of these biomass-balanced products, BASF is empowering coatings manufacturers to reduce carbon footprint without reformulation challenges,” said Sylvain Huguenard, global vice president, additives at BASF.
Dispex AA 4145 MB is intended to support pigment wetting and finish quality in architectural coatings. Rheovis PU 1333 MB and Rheovis HS 1169 MB provide rheology control and application properties across a range of formulations.
The company said the products can support low-emission interior architectural coatings and integrate into existing formulation systems with technical support from BASF.
