Bio-Based Wax Modifies Water-Based Wood Coatings
Lubrizol introduced Lanco 8020 SF, a 100% bio-based, microplastic-free micronized wax for low-VOC, water-based wood coatings. The surface modifier is designed for interior and exterior applications, including clear, pigmented and UV-curable systems.
The additive is intended to provide consistent matting, soft feel, scratch and abrasion resistance and surface toughness while maintaining transparency. Lubrizol said it disperses readily in low-viscosity, high-polarity systems and may be used at lower levels than conventional waxes.
Its renewable composition is designed to help formulators increase bio-based content and address requirements involving intentionally added microplastics. Lanco 8020 SF is available globally.
The product combines renewable feedstock content with a microplastic-free classification, two attributes relevant to PCI’s coverage of wood-coating performance and evolving material-selection criteria.
