Sherwin-Williams Raises Outlook After Sales Increase 7.5%

The Sherwin-Williams Co. reported second-quarter 2026 net sales of $6.79 billion, an increase of 7.5% from the prior-year period, and raised its full-year earnings guidance.
Net income increased 11.8% to $843.6 million, while diluted net income per share rose 14.3% to $3.43. Adjusted diluted net income per share increased 9.5% to $3.70.
Quarterly EBITDA increased 13.8% to $1.43 billion, representing 21.1% of net sales.
“Sherwin-Williams delivered strong second quarter results and continued to outperform the market despite ongoing global uncertainty and no meaningful improvement in demand,” said Heidi G. Petz, chair, president and CEO.
Petz said sales growth was supported by investments, new account wins and increased share of customer spending. The company also implemented pricing actions in response to raw material inflation that pressured gross margin.
Paint Stores Sales Increase 5.1%
Paint Stores Group net sales increased 5.1% to $3.89 billion. Sales from stores open more than 12 months rose 4.2%.
The increase was driven primarily by selling price increases, which contributed a mid-single-digit percentage, along with low-single-digit volume growth.
Sales increased across all professional customer end markets. Protective and marine sales grew by a double-digit percentage, commercial sales increased by a high-single-digit percentage and residential repaint sales rose by a mid-single-digit percentage.
Segment profit increased 4.5% to $957.6 million, while reported segment margin declined slightly to 24.6% from 24.8%.
Sherwin-Williams said it plans to implement an 8% price increase in the Paint Stores Group effective Sept. 1.
Consumer Brands Sales Rise 21.5%
Consumer Brands Group net sales increased 21.5% to $983.5 million, driven primarily by the October 2025 acquisition of Suvinil, higher North American sales and favorable foreign currency translation.
Segment profit increased 29.7% to $212.9 million. Adjusted segment profit rose 33.1% to $241.4 million, while adjusted segment margin improved to 24.5% from 22.4%.
The company attributed the increase to higher sales, favorable mix, supply chain efficiencies and foreign currency benefits, partially offset by higher raw material costs and expenses associated with Suvinil.
Performance Coatings Sales Increase 6.3%
Performance Coatings Group net sales rose 6.3% to $1.91 billion.
The increase reflected selling price and product mix, low-single-digit volume growth and a 2% benefit from foreign currency translation.
Sales increased across all Performance Coatings businesses. General Industrial and Automotive Refinish each posted high-single-digit percentage growth, while Packaging, Industrial Wood and Coil each increased by a mid-single-digit percentage.
Segment profit increased 11.5% to $273.3 million. Adjusted segment profit rose 9.8% to $332 million, with adjusted segment margin improving to 17.3% from 16.8%.
Company Raises Full-Year Guidance
Sherwin-Williams now expects full-year 2026 net sales to increase by a mid- to high-single-digit percentage.
The company raised its diluted net income per share guidance to a range of $10.92 to $11.32 and its adjusted diluted net income per share guidance to $11.80 to $12.20.
For the third quarter, Sherwin-Williams expects consolidated net sales to increase by a mid- to high-single-digit percentage from the prior-year period.
Petz said customer sentiment and leading indicators continue to point to demand softness during the second half of the year. She also cited broad-based inflation across raw materials, energy, logistics and packaging.
During the quarter, the company took restructuring actions expected to generate approximately $17 million in annual savings.
Sherwin-Williams generated $1.49 billion in net operating cash during the first six months of 2026 and returned $2.23 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.
