Cerakote Coatings Pass Aerospace Toxicity Testing

Cerakote reported that three of its thin-film ceramic coatings have passed Boeing BSS 7239, Revision A toxicity testing in flaming mode, adding to a series of recent aerospace fire-safety evaluations for the company’s coatings.
The coatings tested were H-900 Electrical Barrier, H-157 Bright Nickel and F-102 Carbon Black. According to Cerakote, all three passed testing conducted by independent aerospace laboratory Aeroblaze Laboratory.
BSS 7239 evaluates concentrations of potentially hazardous gases generated when materials are exposed to flame. Cerakote said the testing measured emissions including carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The company said the results provide aerospace manufacturers, OEMs and component suppliers with additional performance data when evaluating coatings for aircraft applications.
The toxicity results follow separate testing of Cerakote H Series and F Series coatings for heat release and 45-degree vertical flammability. In both cases, Cerakote reported that the tested coatings passed the applicable federal standards following evaluations by Aeroblaze Laboratory.
Cerakote manufactures thin-film ceramic coatings for aerospace and other industrial applications. Its aerospace portfolio is used on interior and exterior surfaces, structural components, electronics and other parts where properties such as corrosion resistance, thermal stability and low coating weight are important.
