Sherwin-Williams Ends Paint Manufacturing in Jamaica

Sherwin-Williams has ended manufacturing at its White Marl facility in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and is shifting its local operation to a distribution-focused model, according to Jamaican news reports that attribute the information directly to the company.

Sherwin-Williams told the Jamaica Observer that July 31 was the final day of manufacturing at the facility. Products previously produced there will be manufactured at other Sherwin-Williams locations and imported into Jamaica through the company's existing supply chain.

The company did not identify which facilities will take over production. According to the Observer, the White Marl operation had produced architectural, automotive and industrial finishes, including several longstanding products in the Kem line. Sherwin-Williams said its distribution center at White Marl will remain operational and decommissioning of the manufacturing portion of the site is expected to continue into 2027.

Radio Jamaica News separately reported Aug. 10 that Sherwin-Williams had confirmed the manufacturing closure and transition to a distribution-only model. The company said distribution will continue from St. Catherine and Montego Bay, while its 24 company-owned retail stores in Jamaica will remain open. Products formerly manufactured locally will be imported, with the company saying it does not expect the change to disrupt supply.

Sherwin-Williams said the decision followed a review of its operations and long-term strategy and was not related to the performance of the St. Catherine plant or its employees. The company told the Observer that 21 employees entered consultations related to the closure, with seven transferred to other positions and 14 separated. Sherwin-Williams said it will continue to employ approximately 180 people in Jamaica.

The company's 2025 annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission listed one Consumer Brands Group manufacturing facility and one distribution facility in Jamaica. The filing also showed Sherwin-Williams operating paint stores in Jamaica as part of its Caribbean network.

Source note: PCI has not independently obtained confirmation of the closure directly from Sherwin-Williams. The company has provided direct statements confirming the decision to the Jamaica Observer and Radio Jamaica News, but PCI did not locate a company-issued press release or SEC filing specifically announcing the Jamaica manufacturing closure. Sherwin-Williams' current investor-relations press release archive does not list an announcement on the decision.

PCI covers additional developments affecting paint and coatings manufacturer business strategies.
