Perstorp Ends Production at Ohio Polyols Plant

Perstorp Polyols Inc. has permanently discontinued production at its Toledo, Ohio, facility, effective Sept. 2, following a review of the specialty chemicals company's global manufacturing footprint.
Perstorp said the decision reflects a move to consolidate production within fewer strategically positioned facilities. U.S. sales, customer service, planning and distribution operations are not affected, and the company said it intends to maintain reliable supply to customers in the United States and other regions.
Approximately 70% of Perstorp's U.S. employees are affected by the production shutdown. The company said it will support affected employees through the transition.
Before the shutdown, Perstorp's Toledo facility produced trimethylolpropane (TMP), pentaerythritol, di-pentaerythritol and sodium formate. Perstorp identifies TMP, pentaerythritol and related polyalcohols as chemical building blocks used in coatings and resin systems.
TMP is used in saturated polyesters, alkyds, polyurethanes and other coating chemistries, while pentaerythritol is used in resins serving applications ranging from architectural wood coatings to marine paints.
Perstorp said the North American market remains a strategic priority despite the production closure.
The Toledo operation produced several established coatings raw materials, including TMP and pentaerythritol. The closure changes Perstorp's North American manufacturing footprint for these coating and resin building blocks, although the company says it plans to maintain reliable U.S. supply through its broader production network.
