Jotun Reports Lower Lifecycle Footprint for Fouling Protection System

Jotun has released an analysis indicating that its Imperial Fouling Protection System can deliver an approximately 50% lower carbon footprint over a 30-year service life compared with a conventional antifouling coating specification.
The system uses silyl acrylate self-polishing technology and is designed for superyachts, including vessels that spend extended periods at anchor or operate at relatively low speeds.
Jotun attributed the lower calculated footprint to fewer maintenance cycles, reduced paint consumption and less waste over the vessel’s service life. The company said Imperial uses approximately half the paint volume of the business-as-usual coating specification used for the comparison. That benchmark was developed with input from paint manufacturers and the Water Revolution Foundation.
The approximately 50% reduction is based on Jotun’s analysis and has not been independently calculated by PCI.
The analysis is relevant to coatings manufacturers following sustainable coatings strategies and lifecycle performance in marine applications.
