Optikos Acquires Precision Optical Coatings Manufacturer

Optikos has acquired Omega Optical, combining two Artemis portfolio companies serving advanced optical and photonics markets.
Omega Optical designs and manufactures precision optical coatings and components, including thin-film coatings, filters and diffraction gratings. The combined organization will integrate those capabilities with Optikos’ optical design, fabrication and system-level metrology services.
The businesses serve aerospace, defense, life-science and semiconductor-manufacturing applications.
Optikos said the combination is intended to provide customers with a more integrated development and manufacturing workflow spanning design, fabrication, coating and testing.
David Cooper, previously CEO of Omega Optical, has been named CEO of the combined Optikos organization.
The company said existing programs, contracts, engineering contacts and product roadmaps will continue during the integration. Additional investment is planned in manufacturing capacity and engineering resources.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Both businesses were already part of the Artemis portfolio, making the transaction an integration of affiliated companies rather than the entry of a new outside owner.
The acquisition combines functional coatings and optical manufacturing capabilities used where precise control of light transmission, reflection and spectral performance is required.
