Sekisui Announces Global Increases for Selvol Products

Sekisui Specialty Chemicals has announced global price increases for Selvol Polyvinyl Alcohol, Selvol Ultiloc, Selvol Ultalux and Selvol Premiol products.
The company’s notice specifies increases up to the following amounts:
Region |
Maximum announced increase |
North America |
$220 per metric ton |
Latin America |
$220 per metric ton |
Asia |
$220 per metric ton |
Europe, Middle East and Africa |
€200 per metric ton |
The adjustments take effect Oct. 15, or as contracts and agreements allow. Sekisui directed customers to their local sales representatives for details. The public notice did not provide grade-specific adjustments or state a reason for the increase.
The affected portfolio includes materials used directly in coating formulations. Sekisui identifies Selvol polyvinyl alcohol as a cobinder and optical-brightener carrier for paper coatings, while Ultiloc copolymers support ink-receptive coatings and adhesion to difficult substrates.
Ultiloc also serves flexible-packaging barrier applications. Sekisui describes the copolymer family as extending conventional PVOH functionality through changes in adhesion, crosslinking and dissolution behavior. The materials are used in films, laminates and other structures requiring a combination of barrier properties and adhesion.
The adjustment affects polymers used in paper and functional packaging coatings, making it relevant to formulators monitoring resins and polymers and related raw-material costs.
