Coat It!
PODCAST | What Went Into Coating an Operating Data Center in Texas

Need to Know
- The project covered approximately 100,000 square feet of roof and exterior wall area while the facility remained operational.
- A two-layer, water-based acrylic system paired a thermal-barrier basecoat with a reflective, weather-resistant topcoat.
- The reported maximum 48°F difference refers to interior air temperature. Separate interior spray-foam insulation was also installed, and HVAC energy savings were not quantified for this site.
At a Bitcoin mining facility in Corpus Christi, Texas, continuously operating servers created a demanding heat-management problem. According to a case study supplied by EnKoat, the project team chose to treat the metal buildings’ roofs and exterior walls rather than the roofs alone. Clevercoat Renewable Roofing applied the coating system over approximately two weeks while the facility continued operating.
The case study reports interior temperatures of 134–140°F before the work and 92°F afterward. Those figures describe the overall project: spray polyurethane foam was also installed on interior walls, and the supplied results do not isolate the effect of each treatment.
In this episode of Coat It!, PCI Chief Editor Courtney Bassett speaks with EnKoat co-founder and chief executive officer Matthew Aguayo about the full-envelope decision, application at a live site and what the reported measurements mean. Listen to the conversation for a closer look at the project.
