CHELMSFORD, Mass. - ESA Biosciences, Inc., a subsidiary of Magellan Biosciences, Inc., has won the Silver Editors' Award at the 2005 Pittsburgh Conference and Exposition (PITTCON) for its breakthrough Corona Charged Aerosol Detector for HPLC. The Award was announced at PITTCON's annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., drawing more than 1,000 exhibitors.

"We are extremely grateful and tremendously excited with this recognition," said Walter DiGiusto, ESA president. The Corona Charged Aerosol Detector offers all-in-one performance benefits that refractive index (RI), low wavelength (UV), evaporative light scattering (ELS) and chemiluminescence nitrogen (CLN) detector methods lack. Its superior performance typically provides 10 times the sensitivity of ELS; a broad, dynamic detection range over four orders of magnitude; more consistent response factors independent of chemical structure; and full gradient capability, delivering for the first time to the HPLC market almost complete universality.
