People to watch for

Fusion UV Systems, Inc., Gaithersburg, Md., has added Dr. Kazuo Ashikaga as director to its Chemistry and Process Development Japanese business unit. Ashikaga will be responsible for supporting UV-curing projects for customers and prospects via chemical formulation assistance, educational seminars and consulting with formulators of UV chemistries to solve curing issues.

Hunter Associates Laboratory, Inc., Reston, Va., has hired Paul Barnes as national sales manager. Barnes has 12 years of experience with color-measurement instrumentation. HunterLab manufactures portable and bench-top color-measurement systems for the quality control and color formulation of paint.

Cognis, Düsseldorf, Germany, has appointed two global technology managers to its Polymers, Coatings and Inks (PCI) business. Gerhard Bauer has joined Cognis' Functional Products Technology department as global technology manager, PCI. Antoine Carroy joins Cognis' Functional Products Technology as global technology manager, Radiation Curing Technology. He will head up the technical groups of PCI ICC Radiation Curing Technology worldwide and will be responsible for managing the Radiation Curing Innovation Pipeline.

Gregory D. DeCamp has added responsibility for Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries' global original-equipment-manufacturer powder coatings to his duties managing the company's light industrial coatings business. DeCamp, general manager, OEM powder and TrueFinish coatings, held various sales positions of increasing responsibility before becoming global sales director for appliance coatings in 2000. In late 2001, DeCamp moved to Pittsburgh to manage the industrial coatings electro-deposition and pretreatment businesses. In July 2002, he was named general manager for TrueFinish coatings.

MD-Both Industries, Ashland, Mass., has named John Erbeck Sales Manager of the Year for 2004. Erbeck joined MD-Both Industries in March 2001 and oversees his West and Midwest territory from the company's West Chicago, Ill., office, where he is responsible for sales of MD-Both's range of metallic inks, metallic pigments and Wolstenholme Inc. carbon black dispersion products.

Among other senior-management changes, Rohm and Haas Company, Philadelphia, has announced that Luis Fernandez, currently vice president and business unit director for Plastics Additives, will succeed Stephen Robinson, who is retiring, as head of the global Architectural and Functional Coatings business. This business makes acrylic emulsions and specialty additives for consumer paints, formaldehyde-free materials for home insulation, industrial coatings, and materials for textile and nonwoven applications.

Hauthaway Corp., Lynn, Mass., has appointed Ted Johnson to the position of general manager. Johnson will have responsibility for all corporate functions in this newly created role. Johnson was most recently sales manager for the company's Flocking Division, with additional responsibility for two regional distributors servicing the industrial coatings market.

BASF, Toronto, has appointed Robin C. Rotenberg as president of BASF Canada with administrative responsibility for all businesses in the country, including Agricultural Products and Nutrition, Chemicals, Performance Products, and Plastics. In addition, Rotenberg will be responsible for the management of BASF Canada's internal services such as Communications, Legal, Finance and Logistics.

Eastman Chemical Company, Kingsport, Tenn., has named Damon C. Warmack as vice president and general manager for Eastman's coatings, adhesives, and specialty polymers and inks business organization. Warmack was previously vice president and general manager for resins, inks and monomers, as well as president of Eastman's Asia Pacific region.

Silberline Manufacturing Co., Inc., a global supplier of effect pigments with corporate headquarters in Tamaqua, Pa., has appointed Herbert H. Whildin to formulation development manager.
