PITTSBURGH - The Valspar Corp.'s Pittsburgh plant has been accepted into the U.S. EPA's National Environmental Performance Track program, becoming only the second paint and coatings manufacturing facility to earn the designation, the company said.

The plant was recognized for its environmental-management record and a commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance. The Environmental Performance Track program is a public/private partnership designed to encourage environmental excellence. The program involves communities in environmental-protection efforts and focuses on measurable results.

Valspar's Pittsburgh plant has received several honors in recent years, including the National Paint & Coatings Association's Pollution Prevention Award and the Pennsylvania Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence. The plant also has been admitted to OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program at the star level.
