Columbian Chemicals announced plans to increase capacity at the company’s Brazilian carbon-black production facility by 25,000 metric tons per year.

Columbian Chemicals Co., Marietta, GA, announced plans to increase capacity at the company’s Brazilian carbon-black production facility by 25,000 metric tons per year, bringing the plant’s total production capabilities to approximately 200,000 metric tons. Columbian acquired the facility in October 1998 as a result of the purchase of Columbian Chemicals Brasil S.A. The purchase of the plant, one of the largest carbon black production facilities in the world, positioned Columbian as the second largest producer of carbon black worldwide. Separately, the company said it is installing a thermal oxidizer unit at its carbon black plant in El Dorado, AR, to reduce air-pollution emissions.
