PITTSBURGH -PPG Industries Inc. announced that Executive Vice President Frank A. Archinaco will retire and Executive Vice President Charles E. "Chuck" Bunch has been elected president and chief operating officer. Both moves are effective July 1.

Archinaco joined PPG's former glass contract and supply department in 1965 as a management trainee in Newark, NJ, and held a series of key positions in the company's glass business, including senior vice president, Glass. He was elected Corporate executive vice president in 1997.

Bunch joined PPG in 1979 as an assistant to the Corporate controller, and then held a series of accounting, financial-analyst and management positions. He was named general manager of Architectural Coatings in 1992, vice president of that unit in 1994, and vice president, Fiber Glass, in 1995. Bunch was elected senior vice president of Strategic Planning and Corporate Services in 1997 and to executive vice president in early 2000.

In other actions, PPG announced the election of Susan M. Kreh as treasurer and the naming of Douglas B. Atkinson as vice president, Investor Relations.

Kreh joined the company in 1985 as a member of the financial management development program at the former Torrance, CA, coatings plant. She held a series of financial and management positions and was named general manager of the company's Optical Monomers and Coatings business in 2000.

Atkinson joined PPG in 1964 at the company's Barberton, OH, chemicals plant, where he held engineering and operations assignments. He has held positions in business analysis and strategic planning, and was corporate economist before being named director of Global Finance in 1988 and director of Investor Relations in 1991.
