PITTSBURGH - PPG Industries Inc. said it has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, which rates companies on their economic, environmental and social performance. PPG, which was named to the index for the second consecutive year, is one of 312 companies from 62 industries that are listed in the index.

PPG said examples of its sustainable performance include its payment of dividends without interruption since 1899 and its increased shareholder payments for 31 consecutive years; its development of yttrium as a replacement for lead in anticorrosion coatings; and its support of American Chemical Society scholarships for minority students.

Separately, PPG said it has been named a finalist in the annual Automotive News PACE Award competition for the company's "Framecoat" electrodeposition coatings for automotive and chassis components. The PACE Awards program recognizes automotive-industry supplier process and product innovation and management excellence. PPG in recent years has won the award for its Audioguard sound- and vibration-dampening coatings and the Enviracryl powder clear coat used on BMW autos built in Germany.
