WILMINGTON, DE -- DuPont Co.’s recently commercialized Super Solids low-VOC automotive-coatings technology has been recognized with a U.S. EPA Clean Air Excellence Award, the company announced.

The clearcoat technology, with an initial commercial application on Dodge Durango trucks at a DaimlerChrysler assembly plant in Newark, DE, offers significantly reduced VOC emissions and enhanced scratch and mar resistance, DuPont says.

The company said new analytical techniques were crucial to the research and manufacturing development of the technology, with the development process centered at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE. and the Troy Laboratories at DuPont Automotive headquarters in Troy, MI. The technology is described in more detail in this edition of PCI.
