The FSCT will host ICE 2000 at the Lakeside Center, McCormick Place, Chicago, on October 16-20. The event combines the exhibition with the 78th Annual Meeting of the FSCT and International Coatings Technology Conference.

The exhibit will feature more than 325 exhibitors in over 98,000 net square feet. New this year is the addition of the construction chemicals industry. Suppliers, manufacturers, and applicators of adhesives, sealants, mastics, and other materials used in the construction industry are expected to attend and participate.

FSCT Annual Meeting

The Federation’s 78th Annual Meeting is scheduled for October 18-20, at the Lakeside Center, McCormick Place, in Chicago. Presentations are keyed to the theme “Driving Innovation,” and represent the latest in cutting-edge advances.

Bassett to Give Mattiello Lecture

Dr. David R. Bassett of Union Carbide Corp., Cary, NC, will present the Joseph J. Mattiello Memorial Lecture during the FSCT’s 78th Annual Meeting, October 18-20, 2000. The Mattiello Lecture will be given as part of the organization’s Opening Session on October 18.

Bassett joined the Coatings Department of Union Carbide Corp. in South Charleston, WV, in 1968, where he undertook studies of the properties of functional groups at interfaces and the design and characterization of emulsion polymers. Most recently, he has been involved in the globalization of research activities in support of latex business expansions in Europe and Asia-Pacific. He is a member of the Piedmont Society.

Ryntz Receives Heckel Award

Dr. Rose A. Ryntz, staff technical specialist of Visteon Corp., Dearborn, MI, is the 2000 recipient of the George Baugh Heckel Award, the organization’s highest honor.

Presentation of the Heckel Award will be made at the Opening Session of the Annual Meeting on October 18.

Working in the coatings and related industries for over 17 years, Ryntz began her professional career as a senior research chemist at Dow Chemical Co. Following positions as senior research chemist at Ford Motor Co., group leader at E.I. du Pont de Nemours, and technical director at Akzo Nobel Coatings, she moved on to Ford’s Plastic & Trim Products Div. as a senior technical specialist. This work led to her being named a staff technical specialist at Visteon Corp., a company recently formed from the former Ford Motor Automotive Components Division.

Ryntz has been awarded 21 patents, and has published over 70 technical papers in major coatings and adhesion journals.

Gail M. Pollano, David P. Jack Nominated for FSCT Officer Positions

Gail M. Pollano, NeoResins, Wilmington, MA, and David P. Jack, Technical Coatings Co. Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, Canada, have been nominated for officer positions for 2000–2001.

Pollano has been nominated to serve as president-elect of the organization. She was most recently secretary-treasurer of the FSCT and of the Coatings Industry Education Foundation. She has been a member of the Annual Meeting Program, Corrosion, Planning, and Professional Development Committees, and was chair of the Technical Advisory Committee. She received the George Baugh Heckel Award in 1998. She is a member of the New England Society.

David P. Jack, Technical Sales Representative, Technical Coatings Co., Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, Canada has been nominated to serve as secretary-treasurer of the organization. He currently serves on the FSCT Executive Committee. He has been the Toronto Society Representative to the FSCT Board of Directors since 1996, and also served as a member of the Organization Restructure Task Force (1996). In addition, he is a member of the Bylaws Task Force. Jack is a member of the Toronto Society.

ICE 2001 is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on November 3-7, 2001.
