WICKLIFFE, OH - The Lubrizol Corp. has completed its acquisition of Avecia's Additives business, a supplier of dispersion additives based in Blackley, UK. The acquired business had 2003 revenue of approximately $50 million.

Included in the acquisition are a manufacturing facility in Huddersfield, UK, and technical centers in England, Singapore and the United States. Avecia's product line includes the brands Solsperse, Solplus and Solthix, used as dispersion agents for pigments and colors in coatings and ink and other specialized applications such as plastics and composites.

Lubrizol said it will integrate the business into its existing paints, coatings and inks additives business unit, part of the company's Fluid Technologies for Industry (FTI) segment. The company said the acquisition complements its existing range of surface modifiers, flow-control additives and specialty resins.

"This acquisition adds newly patented dispersant technology to Lubrizol's family of coatings and inks product," said Don Bogus, Lubrizol vice president, FTI.
