ARNHEM, The Netherlands - Coatings supplied by Akzo Nobel's International Protective Coatings business are being applied to the roof of the historic Olympic stadium in Athens as part of the facility's modernization in preparation for this year's Olympic games.

Akzo Nobel said a multiple-coat anticorrosion system was specified for the stadium project. The roof, with a total surface area of 65,000 square meters, consists of two giant arcs at either end of the stadium (pictured), each spanning 304 meters at a height of 80 meters. The arcs will provide support for the cables holding the plexiglass panels that make up the roof itself.
