BASF Corp.'s Automotive Coatings Regional Business Unit, Southfield, MI, has received Saturn Corp.'s Outstanding Supplier Achievement Award in recognition of the business unit's record of supplying coatings systems with no defects or rejections over the course of a production year. To mark the occasion, BASF is displaying a Saturn Coupe painted with a special bright orange metallic finish in front of the company's Southfield, MI, Automotive Campus. The finish is described as a combination of special flake pigments and a BASF "Zapon" color dye normally used in fiber products. BASF said it is pursuing the potential commercialization of bright color finishes based on the technology.
