SHANGHAI, China – Bayer MaterialScience has celebrated the startup of a new 20,000-tons-per-year facility for polyurethane dispersions (PUD) at the Bayer Integrated Site in Shanghai. With the new facility, Bayer MaterialScience will have PUD production facilities in each of the world’s major industrial regions and is positioned to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly raw materials for coatings and adhesives in China and the Asia-Pacific market.

“In China, environmental protection has become a major concern of the Chinese citizens and is also recognized as a priority by China’s government. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in awareness and demand for environmentally responsible products and services in China. That is why we are bringing our high-quality raw materials and advanced technology to China,” stressed Joachim Wolff, member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience and Head of the Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties (CAS) Business Unit.

“Besides the production facility, we have invested a great deal at our Polymer Research & Development Center, which features our application and testing facilities for CAS formulations,” Wolff added.
