NACE International to Host Marine Coatings Summit
NACE International, The Corrosion Society, will host the International Marine Coatings Summit (IMCS), slated this year to be held in Osaka, Japan Oct. 13-15, 2009. This event will facilitate the exchange of information regarding the latest in coatings processes and technologies for the world’s shipping industry.
Houston, TX – NACE International, The Corrosion Society, will host the International Marine Coatings Summit (IMCS), slated this year to be held in Osaka, Japan Oct. 13-15, 2009. This event will facilitate the exchange of information regarding the latest in coatings processes and technologies for the world’s shipping industry.
This intensive two-day conference includes technical papers, discussion forums and industry receptions. Attendees representing the maritime industry, classification societies and the coatings industry will discuss corrosion-prevention topics and issues facing the industry pertinent to coatings. Included will be the latest developments related to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Performance Standard for Protective Coatings (PSPC).
In its July 2009 Council Meeting, the IMO selected NACE International for non-governmental organization (NGO) status. The conference in Osaka is designed to discuss the key corrosion challenges facing the shipping industry.
Co-Chairs of the 2009 IMCS in Osaka are Hiroshi (Dave) Iwamoto of CESS and Toyoji Takeuchi of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. Of this year’s event, Takeuchi said, “Some of the very forward-minded shipyards in the Far East region have aggressively undergone the construction of new ships meeting PSPC requirements already. Join us to learn from their experience and keep yourself most updated.”
Among the many technologies set for discussion in the program for 2009 are energy-efficient coatings, underwater coating applications and the latest technologies in anti-fouling coatings, surface preparation and cathodic protection. There will be panel discussions related to both shipyards and port engineers, and there will be presentations and discussions related to achieving the requirements set forth in the PSPC.
