ROLLA, MO - The Missouri S&T Coatings Institute of the Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly known as the University of Missouri - Rolla (UMR), is offering new courses for the spring and summer of 2010. Courses will be held at the Rolla, MO, campus and in St. Louis, MO.
 
"Basic Composition of Coatings" will be offered March 29 to April 2, 2010. The basic composition course is intended for new personnel in the coatings profession. It targets the components of coatings (resin, pigments, extenders, solvents and additives), testing and specifications, general formulation, and manufacturing methods. It is primarily a lecture course with several laboratory demonstrations.
 
"Introduction to Paint Formulation" will be held May 17-21, 2010. This course is intended to give attendees a fundamental knowledge of how to approach a starting formulation and troubleshoot it. It involves both lecture and laboratory work.
 
The summer 2010 short course, "Introduction to Coatings Composition and Specifications, will be held July 19-21, 2010, in St. Louis, MO. This course is designed for the new coatings person in areas such as sales, marketing or production. The course was initiated by a number of raw material companies and distributors requesting a course with this format. The course, which lasts two and a half days, will discuss the types of coatings, the basic composition of coatings, and the tests and specifications used by the industry. It will allow the participant to gain the fundamentals needed to work in this industry and to communicate more clearly.
