HORGEN, Switzerland -- Dow Coating Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Co., presented a paper on Designed Diffusion (DD) technology titled “Synergistic Waterborne Acrylic Urethane Systems” at the European Coatings Conference held in Berlin, Germany.

“With increasing pressure to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the coatings industry, DD technology is helping to meet environmental regulations without compromising film performance,” said paper author Andrew Swartz, Dow Coating Materials. “In order to gain the proper hardness, mar, block, print and dirt-pick-up resistance, latex-based industrial coatings need high glass transition (Tg) polymers. DD technology allows us to improve and accelerate early property development of waterborne latex coatings so that coatings formulators and end users have the option to be able to lower VOCs, as well as improve line productivity and reduce energy requirements.”
