OMNOVA Solutions’ Akron, OH, Technology Center and Fairlawn, OH, Performance Chemicals business unit headquarters were presented with 2009 Awards for Excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Performance from the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC).

FAIRLAWN, OH – OMNOVA Solutions’ Akron, OH, Technology Center and Fairlawn, OH, Performance Chemicals business unit headquarters were presented with 2009 Awards for Excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Performance from the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC). The awards recognize effective, vital and sustainable programs that have resulted in measurable enhancements to company performance, and the commitment to working in close collaboration with government officials, industry peers and communities to share successes and encourage good relations.

An EHS&S Performance award was presented to OMNOVA’s Akron Technology Center for the development of innovative, environmentally preferred chemistries for the global floor-care products industry. Specifically, OMNOVA’s NM®-128 floor care polymer and portfolio of PolyFox® fluorosurfactants were recognized. There products are utilized in the formulation of industrial and commercial floor polishes.

OMNOVA’s Performance Chemicals business unit headquarters received an EHS&S Performance award for achieving certification under the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care Management System® (RCMS). Responsible Care® is the chemical industry’s voluntary initiative that promotes continuous improvement in environmental protection, occupational safety and health protection, plant safety, product stewardship and logistics, as well as communication with customers and the community, independent of legal requirements.

Led by Dan Hagerty, OMNOVA’s Responsible Care Coordinator and Product Stewardship Manager, and supported by a cross-functional team, the facility earned certification through an independent third party in 2009 after undergoing rigorous internal and external audits. This provides OMNOVA with a solid foundation to enact the program across all of its remaining Performance Chemicals locations.

The Ohio Chemistry Technology Council is a statewide trade association with nearly 70 member companies who are involved in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of products of chemistry.
