MUMBAI, India – Following final approvals by local authorities, BASF has completed the legal process of acquiring Ciba’s companies in India.

A court in Mumbai has sanctioned the merger of Ciba India Limited, Diamond Dye-Chem Limited and Ciba Research (India) Private Limited with BASF India Limited (BIL).

Nearly 350 employees of legacy Ciba in India will be integrated into BASF by end of April 2010.

With the completion of the acquisition process, the combined entity has a broad-based portfolio in the specialty chemicals segment. Product offerings will range from paper chemicals, UV stabilizers and antioxidants, to coating effects and care chemicals. In particular, the addition of the manufacturing facility at Ankleshwar strengthens the paper chemicals business of BASF in India, while research and development activities are now centered at the former Ciba technical lab at Chandivali in Mumbai.
