The demand for raw materials is an important indicator for the development on the world markets. This can also be seen at the Solvay Group’s joint ECS Stand 9-341. In addition to their product solutions – functional additives and binders for coatings, emulsion paints and printing inks as well as for high-performance polymers for surface protection – Solvay Chemicals and SolVin from Germany and Solvay Bario e Derivati from Italy have shifted their focus toward supply security and availability.

The functional additives marketed by Solvay under the brand names of SOCAL® and WINNOFIL® influence the rheological properties and improve the surface finish of dispersion paint and printing inks, coatings, and adhesives and polymers.

SolVin presents a range of possible uses for DIOFAN® PVDC latexes to the industry. In addition to their use in sophisticated food and pharmaceutical packaging, areas like water-based, corrosion-resistant coatings and building protection have been brought into focus. Due to its excellent barrier to water vapor and oxygen permeation, and to its good resistance to chemicals, the unique polymer polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC) can also be used for interior work and modernizing bathrooms, washrooms and saunas. In modern tiling systems, a liquid primer formulation based on DIOFAN PVDC prevents water from penetrating walls. At just 0.15 to 0.3 mm, the primary coat is comparatively thin but it is still thick enough to meet international construction standards on waterproofing comfortably.

Italian affiliate Solvay Bario e Derivati is featuring its Blanc Fixe range of barium sulfate, a well known and largely used filler for industrial coating. The product range allows for a large number of flexible solutions for formulating coatings both in automotive and industrial applications, as well as in polymers, paper and batteries.
