MIDLAND, MI – Davy Process Technology Limited (DPT), a Johnson Matthey company, and The Dow Chemical Co.’s (Dow) Oxygenated Solvents business announced that Wison (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co. Ltd. (Wison Energy), a member company of the Wison Group located in Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park in China, has selected LP Oxo(SM) SELECTOR(SM) 10 Technology for its new oxo alcohols plant in Nanjing, China. With this license, Wison Energy will build a LP Oxo plant with capacity of 125 kta of 2-ethylhexanol and 125 kta of butanols. Wison Energy’s Nanjing plant currently operates a 600 kta carbon monoxide plant and supplies carbon monoxide, synthesis gas, hydrogen, and methanol to other facilities located in the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park. Wison Energy’s new LP Oxo plant is the 15th LP Oxo license to be granted in China and the third to be announced this year.

In addition to the license agreement, Dow and Wison Energy also signed a product purchase agreement whereby Dow will purchase a portion of product over a certain period of time from Wison Energy’s LP Oxo plant.

LP Oxo SELECTOR Technology is a low-pressure hydroformylation process that is most commonly used with propylene and synthesis gas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) to produce normal- and isobutyraldehydes. These butyraldehydes are then converted into 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and normal- and isobutanol. Additional applications of the LP Oxo Technology include a process for producing 2- propyl heptanol, a growing plasticizer alcohol alternative to 2-EH, from mixed butene streams and a process for producing C12 to C15 surfactant range alcohols from C11 to C14 Fischer-Tropsch olefins. The technology is also applied as a component of a process plant for converting heptene-1 that has been extracted from Fischer-Tropsch products to co-monomer grade octene-1. For over 40 years DPT and Dow have co-marketed and delivered LP Oxo Technology licenses and services.

Davy Process Technology has a global business in petrochemicals technology development and technology licensing. The company has its headquarters in London and has a Technology Centre in Teesside, UK. It owns a range of proprietary process technologies such as methanol, Fischer Tropsch, SNG, butanediol, natural detergent alcohols, Oxo alcohols, PTA, industrial amines, ethyl acetate and propylene glycol.

Wison (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co. Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Wison Group. Utilizing coal as the feedstock, the company employs clean production technologies to provide high-quality chemicals, including carbon monoxide, methanol, hydrogen, syngas, sulfur and butyl-octyl alcohol. The company’s coal-to-chemical plant in Nanjing employs processes and equipment that are among the world’s most advanced ones, resulting in low coal consumption with high output efficiency.
