Vitracoat Pinturas en Polvo S.A. de C.V., based in Mexico, has opened a plant and research center in Elkhart, IN. The new plant, which features 14,000 ft2 of manufacturing and research space and an initial installed capacity of 2.5 million pounds per year, will operate under the umbrella of Vitracoat America Inc., a subsidiary of Vitracoat Pinturas en Polvo de Mexico. According to the company, the new facility in Elkhart will cover the special needs of certain clients and specialty products in the North American powder coatings market, while more traditional products will be manufactured in Mexico.

“We already have 10 distribution centers across the U.S., but the ability of having local manufacture will allow us to respond faster to special needs, and the new research and development center will enable us to stay at the forefront of powder technology,” said Luis Moussali, vice president of operations.
