PPG Industries has named Jane E. Harrington manager of color styling for its automotive coatings business unit. In her new position, Harrington is responsible for creating, planning and managing PPG's annual global color show, which showcases new color creations and the latest technical advancements to support automakers as they select and develop colors that enhance the brand identity and image of the vehicles they bring to market. Harrington is also responsible for working with automaker design teams to develop color programs and for marketing PPG's automotive coatings capabilities. In addition, she serves as the internal liaison between divisional color groups within PPG and is a member of corporate committees that support efforts to promote color as a key competency at the company.

Tom Mauck

PPG Industries has named Tom Mauck general manager of protective and marine coatings, a business created with the announcement that the company has reached agreement to acquire the Performance Coatings and Finishes business of Ameron International Corp. (See Finishing Buzz, August 2006, p. 9.) Mauck joined the company in 1980 as an accounting trainee in the Cleveland coatings plant and progressed through a series of financial and planning assignments before being named general manager of industrial finishes in 1999 and director of raw materials purchasing in 2002. In his new position, Mauck will report to Rich Alexander, senior vice president, coatings.

Sartomer Co. has appointed Timothy R. Lineberry as plant manager of its Chatham, Va., facility, effective July 1. He is responsible for all plant operations and reports directly to Larry Athens, vice president of manufacturing. Sartomer's Chatham facility manufactures acrylic monomers and oligomers for coatings, inks, and adhesives applications. Lineberry has been with Sartomer for more than eight years as a plant engineer in the Chatham facility, where he directed maintenance and engineering groups, was responsible for the plant-directed capital appropriations program, and was the site contact for corporate engineering projects.

Ralph Keller, a longtime leader and innovator in manufacturing processes, has been named president of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) and has also been named to the Board of Directors for the Chicago Manufacturing Center. Throughout his 35-year career, he has helped dozens of companies implement and benefit from global sourcing, lean manufacturing and Six Sigma. He also has extensive experience in mainline manufacturing functions such as purchasing, engineering, personnel and ERP systems. He has been a member of AME for the past 15 years.

Hari Krishna, manager and senior engineer of August Mack Environmental Inc.'s Texas office, has been recognized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for his work as an EnviroMentor. In this volunteer position, August Mack offers its employees' time and expertise to small businesses and local governments to assist in meeting Texas' environmental standards. Because EnviroMentors are not government representatives, they are able to help businesses comply with the state's environmental regulations without the fear of citations or fines. In lieu of these penalties, small business and local governments receive counseling and advice from experienced professionals.

Arkema Announces Appointments

Lando Ferretti has joined the Arkema Group as group president of the Technical Polymers Business Unit within the Performance Products business segment, succeeding Bernard Roche, who has been called to other functions. Additionally, Christophe de Saint Louvent has been appointed chief executive officer of Altuglas International, an Arkema subsidiary, and Christophe Villain has been appointed chief executive officer of CECA, Arkema's Specialty Chemicals subsidiary.
