Automotive supplier Behr GmbH & Co. has won the coveted 2007 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award for its environmentally friendly BehrOxal® anti-corrosion coating technology for vehicle evaporator surfaces.

A specialist in coatings for automotive air-conditioning and engine-cooling systems, the Behr Group developed BehrOxal to replace Chrome VI anti-corrosion coatings. BehrOxal-treated surfaces reportedly provide better corrosion protection than Chrome VI while improving water drainage from evaporators, allowing for the production of smaller units. The improved water drainage of BehrOxal leads to a homogenous cleaning effect that reduces odors caused by microorganism deposits on evaporators.

Presented by Automotive News, Microsoft Corp., SAP and the Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.), the 13th annual PACE Awards were held April 16, 2007, at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit, MI. Behr's BehrOxal process was selected from among the 23 finalists and won the manufacturing process and capital equipment category of the competition.
