Eastman Chemical Co.: This company recently introduced two specialty additives for coatings: Advantis 510W and Solus 2100. Advantis 510W is a new alkylphenolethoxylate- (APEO) and halogen-free adhesion promoter for waterborne automotive coatings, particularly complex bumper designs. In laboratory tests, the product demonstrated robust adhesion using a variety of commercial topcoat applications. It shows strong resistance during high pressure water jet testing, even after exposure to conditions such as weathering, humidity, heat and aging.

Solus 2100 is a new rheology additive for high-solids industrial two-component (2K) paint systems. Market applications include refinish clearcoats, aerospace topcoats and coatings for plastics, as well as industrial maintenance and refinish primers.

Ideal for low-VOC systems, the product offers faster dry-to-touch time, excellent anti-sag behavior, a wider window of polishability, improved gloss after polishing and ease of sanding. Coatings formulated with Solus reportedly have drying times of 15% to 30% faster than traditional systems, leading to significant improvements in productivity for refinish shops and OEM paint lines.
