According to the report, there is growing consumer demand and regulatory push for bio-based chemicals, materials, polymers, plastics, paints, coatings, and fuels with high performance, good recyclability, and biodegradable properties to underpin a transition towards more sustainable manufacturing and products.

This is the second consecutive year IVL has received this ranking. Factors that increased the company’s score include its ambition to use 16% bio-based and 10% recycled raw materials (rPET) as feedstock by 2030, and safer green chemistry substitutions to reduce toxicity from raw materials and production processes.

Covestro received the highest possible grade A in four out of 10 categories. Covestro's overall score makes it one of 24% of companies in the chemical industry peer group that received such a rating, and rates it higher than the average for this group, which is B-.

Following an in-depth assessment by EcoVadis, Archroma further improved its score by four points (from 78/100 to 82/100). The company says the improvement is due to its ongoing efforts in sustainable procurement, focusing on supply chain transparency and best practice sharing with suppliers and industry peers.

A line of powder coatings from Sherwin-Williams are now formulated with trailblazing polyester resins comprised of 25 percent post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET).

Upon commercialization of these projects, more than 65% of the energy for its Roha, India, and Cuddalore, India, sites will be supplied by renewable sources. The investment process is expected to close after customary reviews in the coming weeks.

Manufacturers of paints and coatings can now reduce their carbon footprint, every day, by using a liquid product recovery (often called 'pigging') technology, according to a new report from independent sustainability and energy consultancy Carbon-Zero.

The benefits of replacing paint lines with paint film systems have been recognized earlier, but difficult to implement due to the infrastructure for traditional paint already in place. Now, with new plants being built to manufacture electric vehicles and greater emphasis on sustainability, paint film systems are becoming more realistic alternatives to paint lines.

Circularise’s blockchain-based digital system was tested with the ISCC PLUS certification to make auditing of certified parties more efficient, and to strengthen the integrity of certified data.
