A research team from the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) has been awarded a $3.5 million grant to study the use of essential oil coatings to protect organic produce.
Comprehensive testing showed the solvent-free coating, initially designed for the protection of surfaces operating under potable water immersion or where potable water approval is required, is compliant with specific requirements of European Regulations for prolonged contact with dry foodstuffs.
New high-barrier, mono-material packaging offers the same packaging and process performance as the multi-material structure commonly used for dry pet food, but is also fully recyclable.
