AMSTERDAM — Royal DSM and Chenyang Group, a manufacturer of environmentally friendly paints and coatings in China, announced plans to collaborate more extensively to drive sustainable coating solutions in the Chinese market.

The two parties have already worked together for over 10 years to develop sustainable coatings solutions that outperform conventional market alternatives. In particular, Chenyang recently launched a new eco-friendly paint solution for indoor wall applications based on DSM’s Decovery® SP-8407. By using the Decovery SP-8407 resin with 49% bio-renewable content, Chenyang has been able to create a new eco-friendly paint for indoor wall paint applications with good scrub and stain resistance.

Paint solutions based on plant-based Decovery resins can enable a 34% carbon footprint reduction compared to conventional alternatives, as well as containing zero-to-low levels of VOCs.

Liu Zhanchuan, CEO of Chenyang Group, said, “DSM and Chenyang share a strong vision of what the coatings industry should look like and how we can enable this transformation. As such, we’re very pleased to step up our collaboration with DSM – a partner with a demonstrated history of delivering highly sustainable innovations, such as the Decovery family of resins. At Chenyang, we’re convinced that plant-based paints can help ensure the healthiest air for our children, while also helping to protect our wider environment.”

Martin Vlak, Managing Director Specialty Resins, DSM Resins & Functional Materials, said, “As one of the earliest paint producers of waterborne coatings in China, Chenyang is a pioneer of environmentally friendly coating solutions. At DSM, we value Chenyang’s technical expertise, local market insights, and ambition to create a better world; we’re excited for the next phase of our collaboration. Together, we can help shape the fast-growing Chinese market, drive the adoption of more sustainable coatings technology, and deliver on DSM’s promise of creating brighter lives for all.”
