Coatings Sales (Net): $15.4 billion

PPG’s global coatings businesses include paints, coatings and specialty materials for the aerospace, architectural, automotive OEM, automotive refinish, industrial, packaging, and protective and marine markets, along with coatings services. Through leadership in technology, sustainability and color, PPG helps customers in industrial, transportation, consumer products, and construction markets and aftermarkets to enhance more surfaces in more ways.

Full-year 2018 reported net sales from continuing operations were $15.4 billion (up more than 4% versus 2017), or $5.92 in adjusted earnings per diluted share from continuing operations. 2018 full-year reported net income from continuing operations was $1.3 billion. The company’s Performance Coatings segment (aerospace, architectural coatings – Americas and Asia Pacific; architectural coatings – EMEA [Europe, Middle East and Africa]; automotive refinish; and protective and marine coatings businesses) comprised 59% of net sales, and its Industrial Coatings segment (automotive OEM coatings, coatings services, industrial coatings, packaging coatings, and specialty coatings and materials businesses) comprised 41% of net sales.

PPG completed four acquisitions in 2018 – Paintzen, an innovative online provider of residential painting services; ProCoatings, a leading architectural paint and coatings wholesaler located in The Netherlands; Hodij Coatings, a leading distributor of professional paint brands in The Netherlands; and SEM, a U.S.-based manufacturer of specialized automotive refinish products. The company also announced a definitive agreement in 2018 to acquire Whitford Worldwide, a global manufacturer that specializes in low-friction and nonstick coatings for industrial applications and consumer products. The acquisition closed in March 2019.

Throughout 2018, PPG built upon its efforts to drive sustainability deeper into global operations. The company unveiled new, aggressive goals it aims to achieve by 2025.
