AHMEDABAD, India — An innovative coating technology developed by the 3M Co. has received an honorable mention in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas of 2020 in the Energy category. The awards honor the businesses and organizations driving change in the world. The Energy category recognizes solar, wind and any other innovative ideas in this segment. 3M™ Scotchkote™ Poly-Tech Exp-RG 700 Solar Heat Reflective Coating was named as an honorable mention in the Energy category. The coating is among the 26 recipients of the World Changing Ideas for 2020 published by Fast Company on April 28, 2020.

The R&D team at 3M, lead by Dr. Mukesh Kumar Madhup, developed 3M Scotchkote Poly-Tech Exp-RG 700 Solar Heat Reflective Coating. When applied to a roof or surface, the coating reflects the heat from sunlight without absorbing it. The coating helps with surface temperature reduction, in lowering enclosure temperatures and in energy conservation, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of a building. This technology has multiple applications over various surfaces including dual protection from corrosion and heat when applied as a recommended coating system.
