The Eastern Coatings Federation announced that the University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and Higher Performance Materials will present an abbreviated short course on Fundamentals of Coatings and Sustainable Materials in the Marketplace during its Eastern Coatings Show (ECS), which will be held May 16-18 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City. The course is included with all levels of registration.

The purpose of the course is to give attendees an understanding of the technical drivers for selecting and using raw materials and an understanding of the applications and testing of coatings with a summary of sustainability concepts and materials specific to paints and coatings. The first part of this 4-hour course is designed for chemists, engineers and people new to the coatings industry with the second part geared towards more experienced lab and technical personnel.

This short course provides a series of lectures covering an introduction to coatings and formulations, formulating, structure/property relationships in polymers, polymer types, solvents and water, formulations and formula development. “We are very pleased to have The University of Southern Mississippi participate in the ECS,” said David White, ECS Board Member.  “This course will provide a great opportunity for people new to the industry to learn about coatings and sustainability as well as experienced technical people to hear about new trends in the industry.” Drs. Robson Storey and James W. Rawlins from University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and Higher Performance Materials will serve as program coordinators for the course.

The Eastern Coating Show will be held at Harrah’s Resort, Atlantic City, NJ, from May 16-18, 2023. For more information on ECS, visit www.easterncoatingsshow.com.
