PPGannounced that it received the “audience favorite” award for its presentation at the recent CARES North America Sustainable Forum, which highlights the innovative techniques and strategies used in sustainable automotive manufacturing. Presented by Thierry Destruhaut, PPG customer sustainability business partner, automotive OEM, and determined through audience voting, the presentation covered key topics facing automakers and suppliers, including cradle-to-grave carbon emissions, critical themes that the industry can address in the near and long term, and how to calculate carbon footprint emissions.

“The automotive industry is quickly progressing against the decarbonization of scope 3 downstream emissions thanks to electrification of automotive fleets,” said Destruhaut. “As a result, it is becoming even more crucial to align on a level playing field for scope 3 upstream carbon footprint calculations and data in order to identify the best options for further decarbonization.”

“The recognition from CARES underscores PPG’s commitment to strong sustainability leadership in the automotive industry,” said Dennis Taljan, PPG general manager, Optima Solutions, automotive OEM coatings. “In an evolving automotive marketplace, we are consistently working to bring sustainable products and solutions that bring value to our customer and the industry overall.”

Founded by major automotive equipment manufacturers, the CARES Forum creates a platform for OEMs and suppliers to discuss how to achieve a more sustainable manufacturing process. The 2023 event drew approximately 300 attendees, ranging from automotive professionals to sustainability advocates. The conference discussed topics including how to reduce the environmental impact of automotive production operations, reduce waste, utilize more sustainable materials and develop new sustainable technologies.
